CEO of Congressional FCU in Virginia dies

Cory Montez Hairston, president and CEO of Congressional Federal Credit Union in Oakton, Va., died last week.

The $1.2 billion-asset credit union said that Hairston, who became president and CEO in October, died on Aug. 16. He joined the credit union in 2005.

“The entire Congressional Federal family mourns this loss,” the credit union said in a statement. “On behalf of our board of directors, management team and employees, we extend our deepest sympathies to Montez’s family. Mr. Hairston was a remarkable figure who brought dedication and passion to the organization.”

“Cory was a dedicated and steadfast leader for the credit union and people they served,” CUNA President and CEO Jim Nussle said in a separate statement.

Hairston “recognized that Congressional Federal Credit Union has a unique role in credit union advocacy, working directly with members of the … House of Representatives and those working on Capitol Hill. His tireless efforts for credit unions and passion for transparency will be missed,” Nussle added.
