VALT gets conditional FDIC approval to open a bank
VALT is closer to operating a digital-only bank.
The fintech disclosed that it received conditional approval from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. for VALT Bank in Idaho. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency had already signed off on the proposed bank.
VALT, which submitted its application in mid-November, must infuse $25 million of capital into the proposed bank before it can open.
“Building a new national bank from the ground up is a challenging undertaking,” VALT said in its LinkedIn post. “We started this journey because we believe small and midsized businesses deserve a better banking experience. There is still important work ahead as we complete our capital raise, satisfy the remaining conditions of our regulatory approvals, and prepare the bank to open.”
Matt Gediman, who led private wealth management advisory teams at U.S. Bank, would serve as president and CEO. Other founders include John Elmore, R. Ross Carey, Kim Hoyt, Dana Johnson, Edward Chuang, and John Peckham.
