INSIGHTS INTO THE BANKING INDUSTRY

Middlefield in Ohio discloses cyberattack

Middlefield Banc Corp. in Middlefield, Ohio, was the victim of a recent cyberattack.

The $1.7 billion-asset Middlefield disclosed in a regulatory filing that the attack occurred on April 12 and resulted in a disruption to its bank’s computer systems.

“The bank took immediate action to remediate the security vulnerability,” the filing said.

Middlefield also hired a cybersecurity firm to investigate the incident, evaluate systems and identify solutions, and confirm what data, if any, had been impacted. The bank also notified law enforcement and hired special counsel.

The company said its products and services are fully operational, adding that it placed additional security measures and “will continue to actively monitor any suspicious activity.”

Middlefield is looking to confirm if any customer data was impacted.

While the response will have expenses, Middlefield said it doesn’t think those costs will be material.
