Cross River in N.J. lands SBI investment, plans Japan joint venture

Cross River Bank in Fort Lee, N.J., is taking its embedded finance infrastructure overseas.

CRB Group, the holding company for Cross River, said in a press release that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan’s SBI Holdings for a strategic business alliance. SBI will invest in CRB Group, and the companies will work toward a joint venture to offer Cross River’s products in Japan and across the Asia-Pacific region.

The investment amount was not disclosed.

The joint venture would pair Cross River’s technology with SBI’s client base and network in Japan. It will initially focus on three areas that track closely with Cross River’s recent product push: tokenized real-world assets, cross-border payments, and agentic commerce.

Beyond the joint venture, the alliance opens several other doors for Cross River, including APAC distribution, adding a yen stablecoin on its platform, more onchain products, and a cornerstone investor. SBI may serve as a limited partner in a new Cross River-affiliated asset management vehicle focused on private credit and structured products.
