First National Bank of Alaska lines up next CEO

First National Bank Alaska in Anchorage will start 2027 with a new leader.

The $5.1 billion-asset bank said in a press release that Darren Franz will become president and CEO on Jan. 2. Franz, who is president, lending and administration, will succeed Betsy Lawer, who will transition to executive chair.

“Leadership is never about one person. It’s about building an organization with the right people, shared values and the courage to look beyond today,” Lawer said in the release. “I am deeply proud of everything our remarkable employees, executive team and Board of Directors have achieved together. I am confident the team is ready for their next step and excited about what lies ahead for First National.”
