Sunflower Bank forms insurance agency

Sunflower Bank, a unit of FirstSun Capital Bancorp in Denver, has formed an insurance agency.

The $8.5 billion-asset bank created Sunflower Insurance Solutions, which will also offer wealth and risk advisory services to business owners and high-net-worth families.

“The launch of Sunflower Insurance Solutions marks an exciting step in expanding our ability to deliver comprehensive financial strategies,” John Sawyer, the bank’s director of private banking and wealth management, said in a statement.

“We are equally pleased to welcome Catherine Runge, director of insurance strategies, to lead this initiative,” Sawyer added. “Her 20-plus years of expertise and client-focused approach will be instrumental in building innovative insurance solutions that complement our wealth management offerings.”

Sunflower Insurance Solutions entered into a strategic partnership with Lion Street to gain access to the financial services company’s network of independent firms. Lion Street has more than $114 billion of life insurance benefits in force and more than $8 billion of cash value.
